Intentional Living
There are two types of people in this world: the people that always talk about what they are going to do and the type of people that get things done with purpose. What’s the difference between those two types of people? Well, the “dreamer” life is filled with worries about how things will turn out. They always want and desire things that other people have accomplished and never try to do start something on their own. Then, they always wonder why they aren’t able to have the life that their role models are living. The life of a dreamer sounds like a life you wouldn’t want to live. Now let’s take a look at how the life of someone living with intentions look. When the person living with intentions has an idea and puts it into action with a good strategy. Instead of having their calendar filled with what they need to do for someone, their calendar is filled purposeful events that will help them live a life with intentions. That person is happy and excited about life as he is living with intentions and having a positive impact on the world. How exactly do you life a life with intentions? In this book, John Maxwell explains how to actually start living a intentional life that actually matters to the world.
Many people always read about what their favorite movie stars plan on doing and wish that someday they can be magically be like them. What they fail to understand is that instead of wasting time on these things, they should be using that time to perfect their own life. Instead of reading about other people, you should be thinking about how you want your life story to sound and have a positive impact on the world. How exactly do you live with intentions? People used to always say as long as you think you can make it, you will be able to live a good life. Well, there are 7.3 billion people living in this world and there is no one that doesn’t want to live the good life. The key thing that sets you apart is your execution. Rather than dreaming about how it will feel to have your own business and always wishing that it will magically come to you, you can start to execute it. You can surround yourself with like-minded people that want to make a difference as well. Always know that if you keep waiting, the opportunity isn’t going to be waiting for you. Someone that was able to execute it faster than you will take your idea, so what’s worse than having your dream idea being taken away?
In order to execute, you need a lot of people that have the same vision as you. How exactly do you attract these people to work with you? In order to receive value from people, you must deliver value to other people. It doesn't have to be much, it can be simple things. For example, when you are talking with them, give them a few important insights that could help them in their situation so when they leave, they will leave the room thinking, “ He was smarter than I thought!” When people start saying this about you, that’s when you will start to prosper. As the quote goes, "Steps by steps you get ahead, but not necessarily in fast spurts. In order to achieve excellence, you need to first start off by doing ordinary things better than anyone else. "
Don’t be stingy with people, always be in an abundant state of mind. People have this tendency to think that if someone takes their food, they are run out of food and starve to death. This type of approach to life will make you feel insecure no matter how much money you have, you will always be worried about losing money. Instead, having an abundant state of mind allows you to have this attitude that once you run out, you can always find a way to get more. You should be able to anticipate for all sorts of opportunities available for you. When you start having this abundant state of mind, not only do more opportunities come to you, you will be able to have a better attitude in life. Instead of being worried about people taking from you, you will be thinking about opportunities that are open for you to seize.
How do you develop yourself to be ready to seize these opportunities? No one is born with amazing talent. Talent has to be developed over time and its been said that about ten thousand hours of work is required to become great at something. How exactly do you get ahead? It doesn’t have to be massive change overnight. Rather, it can be a small, consistent growth. This leads to exponential growths and before you even realize, you will be at a state of excellence. As the billionaire Charlie Munger says, “Spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up. Day by day, and at the end of the day-if you live long enough-like most people, you will get out of life what you deserve.” At the end of the day, these incremental growths are what’s going to give you the life with intentions.
This book has the potential to change your life especially if you are not sure if you are living up to your potential. This book definitely changed my perspective and I developed a new mindset that allows me live up to my potential. There is a lot to learn from this book and I highly recommend you to read this on your own as this is one of the books you must read if you want to live up to your potential.
